5 Things to NOT do after dyeing your hair with Henna

Updated: Feb 4, 2022

There is always a list of dos and don’ts that people have to keep in mind as they undertake any activity, and applying henna to your head is no exception. In fact, this is one thing that requires utmost attention not just during the process but even before and after you apply henna. These are the last-minute tips you should follow if you want your desired result. Following is a list of things that you should definitely NOT do after dyeing your hair with Henna:

1. Do NOT use hot water to wash your hair after applying henna.

After the tedious process of applying the henna to your head, most women prefer taking a long hot shower to relax. However, hair stylists have spoken about this on several occasions that freshly coloured strands should not be subjected to hot boiling water. Thus, it is advisable that you do not wash your hair with hot water.

2. Do NOT wash your hair with your regular shampoo

While regular shampoos would not harm your scalp, it is advisable to use a shampoo that is specifically made for coloured hair. This helps to firstly, wash your hair better and secondly, retain the colour of henna for a longer time.

3. Do NOT overexpose your hair to chemicals

After you colour your hair with henna, it is advisable to not expose your hair to chemicals for some time, at least in the initial stage to prevent your hair from any damage, or the chance to expose your hair to fade its colour faster. These chemicals can be anything from hairspray and hairstyling products to too much blow-drying.

4. Do NOT wash your hair very often

This tip stands true not just for the time you decide to dye your hair with henna but in general as well. It is recommended that you have a longer cycle when it comes to washing your hair. Washing your hair every day, not only weakens the roots of your hair but also fades colour faster. It does not give the chance for the natural oils present in your henna paste to spread across your scalp. Thus, it is advisable to wash your hair just two or three times a week.

5. Do NOT use hand towels to dry your hair

After you wash your hair with henna, make sure that you do not use a hand towel or put too much pressure as you soak out the water from your hair. This is because applying henna to your hair can make your hair dry, if not applied oil before, and in the process of drying your hair, it can lead to hair damage and extensive hair fall.

This concludes all the tips one must follow before, during and after applying henna to your hair. These are some pro tips one should definitely follow for the desired colour and a shinier appearance.
